They Did What?? –or — Title Means Everything in Getting Your Post Read

Be honest.
Even in this day and age of video on demand with iTunes and YouTube, the VAST majority of content, especially news and current events, are still text based. Sure they throw in pictures, audio, and video links, but the story is all written and has to have the time invested to read said story.
What brings you, in the first place to read a story? Why the title of course! If the title doesn’t catch your eye and sparks your interest, you’ll go by and look for something else. I’m just as guilty. I scan CNN and Yahoo! everyday for news stories that I have an interest in. More times than not, I look for titles that mention an interest of mine. Rarely do I check into a non-interest driven story unless the title makes me scratch my head and wonder what the HECK it could be about.
Then we get into the REALLY good titles. Titles that inspire emotion and gets you worked up without even reading the story. Case in point, “Battlestar” gets grounded by SciFi. Just reading that title got my blood boiling. I remember watching the original Battlestar Galactica, running around in kindergarten with my colonial pilot’s jacket. The new version is extremely well done, has great character development, and, a must for me, keeps you guessing. A biggest problem I have with alot of shows / motion pictures is that I can generally guess what’s going to happen, and that usually depresses me because I love to be surprised. Battlestar keeps me on the edge of my seat. And now it will be gone. The good that comes from all this is that Battlestar will go out with a bang, hopefully a preplanned bang. I hate when a story has to have a sudden, rushed, ill thought out ending. Battlestar had better bring it all together and give us an ending that this fantastic show deserves.
