The Call Answered — Does Blogging Help Your Business?

Michael Martine at Remarkablogger has written a call to arms asking business bloggers if blogging has helped their business. Of course, being a business blogger and what I consider an online friend of Michael’s, I must reply.
I didn’t start Desty Online to write about business, mine or anyone else’s. I started it, along with alot of other newbie bloggers, to write about how to make money online. As I’ve mentioned before, it only took 2 weeks to determine that I didn’t know squat about how to make money online, so I really didn’t know what to write about.
I kept reading other how to make money online blogs, and it slowly became obvious that while some of these people knew how to make money online, they didn’t know anything about how to treat their money making enterprises as a business. One writer bragged about how his online earnings paid for a week’s vacation in New York City; sadly, he could have been doing so much more had he reinvested his income into his blog and possibly other online opportunities.
I started writing about how to run an online business using practices I learned in my offline businesses. Desty Online is really an online journal about my ventures into online businesses and online marketing. Desty Online itself is my 2nd online business. I’ve written quite abit about business practices such as creating a business plan, practical use of business income, and I recently started a detailed approach to my 1st online business, an eBay sales venture.
I started a 3rd online business a month or so ago; yesterday I determined that I while I knew a great deal about the niche, I really didn’t have the passion to write about it. So yesterday I rethought my plan, and did a complete change in my business. Instead of a blog the would rely on advertising opportunities, I would focus on an affiliate and sales based site using a blog as the medium. I’m really excited about the possibilities.
As to a direct answer to Michael’s question if blogging helps my business, I don’t know yet. Up until now, my online business has been blogging. Let me answer you in 1 year when hopefully I’ll have a good base for my new site.

Yeah, you won’t really can know what to answer unless you already experienced and taste the product nevertheless about the questioned raised I think would be best if you tried it and hopefully you yourself will gain the answer.
Cool. Thanks for the response! Even though I’ve very pro-blogging (as in biased towards blogging), I know it’s not for everyone or every type of situation. Sounds like you’re doing the right thing for your new business. You might want to consider hiring others to blog about it though, maybe through smorty.com or something.
Blogging ROI is difficult because it seems to be an indirect influencer, rather than a direct cause. In my own case, blogging is both the product and the service, so I see a direct correlation between my blogging and getting business.
Even though the design of the new site isn’t even close to being complete, marketing is already being planned. I had a private offer for funding, but I’m wanting to get atleast into beta before I look to outside investors.
Great stuff Desty. Good luck with you provate funding, that would be cool.
The idea of private funding is great and all, but with it comes alot of pressure. People are investing their money in your idea; while alot of people say what they’re working on is a sure hit, 100%, they’re just trying to get more money from investors. With any start-up, plan to fail atleast 19 times out of 20, maybe more.
