The #1 BlogRush Improvement for Online Marketing

Here are some reader suggested articles:

Everywhere I turn, I see everyone talking down upon BlogRush.  Does BlogRush bring tons of traffic?  No, not really.  Does BlogRush bring traffic?  Yes, if you market your articles so others want to read them.  If your title doesn’t sound interesting, doesn’t make people want to see what the article is about, then no, BlogRush won’t bring traffic to your site.

I use BlogRush on Desty Online as well as my new project.  Desty Online was officially approved for BlogRush; I added the BlogRush code to my new project after the manual reviews.  Due to it’s nature, I doubt that my new project will be approved (it’s commercial).  I still get traffic on both sites from BlogRush.

Look at my theme for Desty Online.  At the top of the page, you’ll see what I consider my most recent featured article; this is the most recent article that I believe new visitors will find of interest.  When I write newer articles, the newer articles are displayed on BlogRush, where I would rather control what article is sent across BlogRush.  If BlogRush would create a plugin to allowing coding or tags to mark what recent articles would appear in the BlogRush widgets, that would be the best improvement to BlogRush.

I’ve actually been thinking about reinstating it on my blog, but I still don’t really how it’s much of a benefit to my readers. I never hardly see anything worth clicking on the widgets on other people’s blogs, other than articles I’ve already read in my reader. If there’s no user benefit, then there really isn’t any benefit to the blogger, either.

I disagree. Everytime I spot a BlogRush widget, I check it out before reading the article to see if there’s something interesting. I would say 7 times out of 10 there isn’t, but that’s the various authors’ fault.

I think you just made my case for me! :D Let’s think about this: a 30% that there might be something good because most people aren’t writing anything good means that I don’t see enough value in it for my readers. Even with the spammers gone, the quality of the content available through BlogRush isn’t good, in my opinion. I see the occasional A-lister post in there, but like I said in my first comment, I already read that in my reader.

I used to check the headlines in BR widgets, but I’ve learned to ignore them. If I don’t get any value from it, I’m pretty sure my readers wouldn’t, either. That’s how I feel about it, anyway. We will all do what we feel is best for our blogs. I certainly don’t mean to suggest that nobody should participate in the BlogRush program. :)

I guess it’s more a matter of perspective. I’m on the lookout for that 1 nugget of gold in BlogRush out of the mass of sand. I find a nugget, I visit to read the article. Now, a good title doesn’t always mean a good article; I’ve been burned several times by excellent titles and just 100 word articles that say nothing.

When I find that perfect combination, title and article, I scan the archives and related posts. Again, might be only 1 good article in a sea of junk. Keep digging further. Finally find that good article, several good articles. Bingo! New addition to my reading rotation.

Then again, I’m willing to bet most readers don’t think like I do. I’m kinda silly that way :P
