Is Submitting Your Articles to Bloggingzoom a Good Idea?

Here are some reader suggested articles:

Over the last two or three weeks I have been networking on the new site Bloggingzoom.  Bloggingzoom is a network of bloggers using a Digg-type format to submit article links.  The thought behind it is you can submit your own articles not only to a wider audience of bloggers, but also to help your traffic by improving your rankings for the submitted articles.

SEO Work With Currently Ranked Articles

On what was an unrelated note, I have been doing further research into SEO and keyword selections and placement when I discovered what could be considered a very basic process.

Check your search engine traffic to see what is getting the most inbound traffic.  Go back to that article and make some slight improvements (add an additional link to a related article in the content, etc).  Also, check your keywords to see how you’re ranking.

My article going over Whateverlife.com and how it makes money by giving away free MySpace layouts has been, by far, responsible for the majority of my search engine traffic. My entrance keywords for this article are

  • whateverlife myspace
  • how does whateverlife make money
  • whateverlife owner
  • how does whateverlife.com make money?
  • myspace whateverlife
  • whateverlife business
  • how does whateverlife.com make money
  • how whateverlife started
  • layouts and whateverlife

When I originally started to get search engine traffic from Google for this article, I did a keyword search and discovered I was ranked 2nd on the 1st page behind whateverlife.com itself!

Dude, Where’s My Search Engine Traffic??

Today, I did a search on those keywords again.  I had been knocked down from 2nd to 5th.  That’s ok, just need to make some adjustments.  Then I noticed that my submission for my Whateverlife.com article to Bloggingzoom was ranked 3rd!

I don’t know, but this worries me.  I have been getting traffic from Bloggingzoom, even some traffic from them for that article, but I seriously wonder if it’s actual search engine traffic.  Putting on my affiliate SEO hat, any links or exits from a site is a bad thing.  In the sidebar of the Bloggingzoom page for my article are several links to other articles.  If that reader finds something else that captures their interest, that’s traffic I missed out on.  Also, from a pure linkage standpoint, how does Google relate this link from Bloggingzoom to my article?

What Do You Think?

I enjoy my time on Bloggingzoom, networking with other bloggers and reading excellent articles.  I’ve also learned a great deal about how to create better articles by reading Bloggingzoom.  I wonder if it’s a good thing to actually submit my articles though.

Would you still be fifth if you did not have a 3rd place spot linking to you? What took 2nd and 4th?
Yes, it is good to submit your post to Blogging Zoom. Make sure your write your description on Blogging Zoom so it encourages readers to click through to your post.
It is the same thing with submitting articles to directories like EZine Articles, you use the author box to get people to your site, not just tell them who wrote the article.

I’ve heard so much about EZine Articles, but with my other blogs and my new video site, I don’t have enough time to write more.

I guess the competitive side came out in me; I don’t like to lose and I lost ground from 2nd to 5th.

I think overall it is a positive thing. The fact is, if it were not submitted then what? would you be ranked 4th? If that were the casewhat about whoever was ranked 2nd and 3rd? Would those sites bring traffic to you in any way? No they wouldn’t. As a matter of fact they would draw it completely away from you. At least this outlet helps you to still keep a lot of clickers on the first page within the realms of your blog. No it won’t be your blog 100 percent of the time. But it moves things in the right direction. So therefore I say overall it has more positive points than negative.

After stepping back from the details of keywording and looking at the big picture, my article commands 2 of the top 5 spots for that keyword search. So, instead of having a 20% chance of getting that click, I have a 40% chance!

BloggingZoom is good traffic. Submit all you want. You get backlinks from every article.

Heh, believe it or not, it never occurred to me to think of it in terms of getting backlinks. I just wanted more people to read my articles, social proofing and all that…

Think of it in another way. When people find you via BZ they are more likely to come back, so the end result is better than just a search hit.

I’ll use myself as an example. When I find a good article on BZ I’m more likely to read more zooms by the person who submitted it. So if you consistently submit good content I’ll be more likely to return and will turn into a subscriber. Of course, I’m not using BZ as a SEO tool.

I’ve found several great blogs through Bloggingzoom that I never knew about. Heck, my entire new focus on keywords is a direct response to something I read on Bloggingzoom. Now I’m more aware of how I write articles and try to bring alittle SEO into each article, but still make the article a good read :)

By the way, I think it’s more than a little shady to hide the other subscribe to comments button and then automatically check it for people. You should really not do that to people. Some of us don’t like it.

Blaim my poor HTML coding skills rather than any supposedly shady activity. I didn’t even know there was another subscribe to comments box. I turned off the option for default subscriptions to comments. Thanks for bringing it to my attention :)

Thanks, Desty. That’s very appreciated. Maybe it was just a theme thing, but really most people prefer to make a choice of whether to subscribe or not. :)
