Advertising Coming to YouTube Videos

YouTube, through Google, will start showing advertising on their videos. The ad will be shown as a transparent “overlay” at the bottom of the clip that disappears after a few seconds.
Video owners will supposedly be included in on this ad revenue on a per impression basis. No word on where the advertising will come from; since this is from Google, it would make sense to see ads from AdWords down the road.
As video owners will now have a cash incentive for their videos, you can expect not only the amount of videos to go up, but, sadly, the quality of the videos (such as it is) will go down as more people will try to cash in on the per impression payout.
As is, I can also see copyright holders getting more shrill in calling for YouTube to crack down on copy-written material, since now those you upload stolen materials can make money off of it. Example, every Friday morning I check into YouTube and watch the 1 1/2 day old Naruto Shippuuden episode subtitled into English. Within a week, sometimes over the weekend, the video is taken down for copyright violations, but not before thousands have already watched the video.
Should be interesting…
